How recruitment technology should connect to source and deliver the best talent

At the In-House Recruitment Network breakfast event, recruiters, talent managers and HR professionals gathered to hear how to optimise and improve recruitment technology to attract and deliver the best talent. Here's what we covered on the day.

At the In-House Recruitment Network breakfast event, recruiters, talent managers and HR professionals gathered to hear how to optimise and improve recruitment technology to attract and deliver the best talent.

The guest speakers shared hints and tips, case studies and insight as to how they have approached their recruitment strategies, using technology to create a seamless experience and attract the best candidates.

Live Poll Results

In a live poll, the audience were asked ‘What is your current main recruitment challenge’ and the results presented a couple of core challenges, as follows:

  • Scarcity of qualified candidates – 35%
  • Getting the right technology/systems implemented – 24%
  • Lack of recruitment marketing budget – 12%
  • Poor candidate experience – 12%
  • Lack of brand awareness – 12%
  • Too many applicants – 6%
  • Location – 0%
  • Lack of resourcing skills within the team – 0%

The top challenge of candidate scarcity mirrors the results from the 2018 UK Candidate Attraction Survey where it remained the number one challenge for the third year running.

Connected Recruitment Technology

Kim Tolley, Head of Implementation at Eploy started the morning session by sharing her expertise of key considerations when approaching recruitment technology integrations. Some of the areas to think about were:

  • What’s your eutopia – your perfect process, what would you connect and what you would have that you don’t have now?
  • Reasons to integrate and the benefits
  • Types of tech to connect – SSO, HR & Payroll, Video Interviewing, Background Checking, APIs, etc. Watch the video.

Alison Gray, Human Resources Director at Delaware North shared a candid story of their recruitment journey, drivers for implementing a revised strategy to transform the candidate experience, as well as address an arduous paper process. This was exacerbated with increasing compliance and audit accountabilities including the need to background check every casual employee! All whilst operating in a highly competitive market with a fluctuating workforce, where the service they delivered was secondary to the hospitality event itself. The session engaged the audience and prompted questions about how to prioritise, stay competitive and engage hiring managers.

The final presentation came from Sally Bradbery, Group Resourcing Manager at Barratt Developments plc who shared the rapid recruitment technology journey she led for Barratt. Sally shared how the ATS project involved several integrations that were key to the project and the apprentice and graduate recruitment programme. Their careers site is integrated with their ATS for online applications that use CV parsing for efficient applications. Once applications are completed this launches a situational judgement test that then passes back an automated response for a pass or fail, before moving successful candidates on to a video interview.
