The RAC are driven by a mission to improve the colleague and customer experience, creating a safer, faster, and smoother service for everyone. They've come a long way and know they're not perfect, but they never stand still and continue to work at pace to make it happen.

Headquartered in the West Midlands with approximately 4,000 dedicated staff, the RAC operates from three bases – Walsall, Manchester and Bristol – with its vehicle and breakdown services underpinned by its nationwide, branded patrol force, focusing primarily on vehicle repair and recovery.

In a nutshell

The Recruitment Team of 10 provides recruitment for the whole RAC, covering Head Office, Contact Centre, Sales, Digital & Technology and Patrol and Technical Operations. In the past year, the team have reviewed, screened and fed back to over 32,000 applications that have contributed to great people and specialists in their field joining the RAC. Despite structural changes, a recruitment freeze, new systems, and increased work volumes, the recruitment team continues to achieve results.

The RAC Recruitment Team has harnessed the power of Eploy's complete Applicant Tracking System and Talent CRM, which is the central hub for all recruitment activity. As a result, the RAC has removed the need for a separate candidate screening system and provides hiring managers with a dedicated portal to easily view and manage longlisted candidates and make informed decisions to progress/reject each candidate.

The Recruitment Team continually measures how they support the business and how they can enhance their approach to recruitment. Here's the background to what they are doing!

Improvements to support the creation of a bigger and better business

  • Took ownership of Service, Maintenance, and Repair, a new company initiative, placing many new starters between over the period.
  • Delivered innovative ideas for Sales Operations to provide direct recruitment, resulting in 0% agency involvement and cost savings for the business.
  • Transformed RAC's Refer a Friend bonus by collaborating with HR team.
  • Created a better candidate experience and an increase of positive Glassdoor reviews.

The Recruitment Team continuously support and motivates one another, sharing wins, big or small, to celebrate team success. They are multi-skilling to achieve goals and meet critical targets. Their efforts have been recognised with multiple 'Orange Hero' nominations, an internal recognition programme and personal shout-outs from stakeholders.

  • New members of the Recruitment Team are supported to understand systems, policies, and procedures, all whilst under time pressure.
  • Eploy's recruitment platform is highly configurable, and the team has customised the platform to work effectively for the needs of the business and adapt to market changes.
  • The Recruitment Team use Eploy's real-time MI dashboards to understand activity and impact change.

Engagement

  • The team provide healthy challenges and guidance amongst stakeholders to change behaviours with recruiting.
  • By attending job fairs to inspire new starters, the Recruitment Team are sharing the benefits of working for the RAC to generate more applications.
  • The Recruitment Team have engaged with Scope disability charity to encourage diversity throughout the recruitment process and create positive change within the application process.
