At times it’s almost like the recruitment industry speaks a different language to other fields with strange abbreviations and colloquial terms regularly thrown around. After our first recruitment industry jargon buster blog, we came across plenty of other terms whose meanings may not be entirely clear to those not working within the industry.

Talent Acquisition

The process of attracting candidates to a business or job role. Usually involves multiple activities as part of an ongoing strategy for identifying and engaging the resources required and should be a focus for any business looking to attract quality candidates/specialists to manage an organisation's ongoing recruitment needs.

Entry Level

Roles that are described as being ‘entry level’ tend to be at a lower level within a business and require functional skills rather than relevant experience or training. These roles tend to be targeted toward recent school graduates or those without experience in the field.

Blind Selection/Hiring

Blind selection or blind hiring refers to removing personal information such as name, race, or gender from a candidate's application during the hiring process. This is a method frequently used to combat bias in the recruitment process.

Culture Add

When partaking in culture add, a business looks to hire based on the impact that a new recruit will have on the diversity and culture of a business. There are many benefits to a diverse workforce and culture add hires are common within organisations of all sizes.

Employee Referral

An employee referral is when a current employee refers a potential employee to the business, usually a friend or family member. This can be an effective way of attracting high-quality candidates. Typically those providing the referral are usually offered rewards and incentives for doing so.

Internal Mobility

As the name implies, internal mobility is the movement of talent within an organisation. Internal mobility is used as a recruiting strategy to encourage employees to take on new roles in the organisation to facilitate an employee's career goals and support business priorities. The movement of talent within an organisation can help to attract and retain top talent.

Internship

An internship is a period of work experience offered by an employer to provide exposure to the working environment to gain experience. Generally, internships are targeted toward students and are a great way for organisations to scout future talent.
